Course Introduction

(This is the Beta 1.0 version of the Master Course. If you purchase this Beta version, you will automatically receive free access to the Alpha 2.0 version when it becomes available).

This Master Course offers a full, in-depth, systematic study of Gregorian Chant at a level practically non-existent outside of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome. Your instructor, Mr. Christopher Jasper, is the founder of the Gregorian Chant Academy and has over 25 years of experience studying, singing and directing Gregorian Chant. He was a student under the late Dom Daniel Saulnier, OSB of Solesmes and is currently an acquaintance of Don Alberto Turco and Giacomo Baroffio with whom he converses regularly. Mr Jasper is also a former postulant and current oblate of the Benedictine Monastero di San Benedetto in Norcia, Italy. He is currently married with 4 children.

This course offers 7 modules and approximately 40 hrs of lessons, handouts, exercises and an optional Certificate of Completion. Previous musical knowledge or training is not required but is recommended. This course is recommended for those 16 years and older. With a study load of 4 hours each week, this course should take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

If a Graduale Triplex is not already owned, one must be purchased for the study of Semiology. This can be purchased from the online store of the Abbey of Solesmes, from Paraclete Press or from GIA Publications.

                                                                                                    STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
"This course is phenomenal! Having received my Masters in Music Performance, I can honestly say this course is what I was waiting for my entire musical career while I was in college and too busy to attend those 'colloquiums.' It's all the chant knowledge I wish I had when I was directing choirs. The quality of this course is like a two-semester upper-college course (yet still accessible to beginners) at a fraction of the cost! Completely online, you can study at your own pace without having to uproot your life to attend a sacred music conference, which would barely scratch the surface of what this course provides, and is unmatched in its spiritual element. Mr Jasper demystifies the chant in a very methodical fashion, walking with you every step of the way. This course is worth every penny and more!" ~ Mrs. Salma Horvath, USA

"This course was a literal gift from God. Despite feeling a deep connection with God through Gregorian Chant, as a beginner I was feeling lost and on the brink of quitting my choir until l discovered this course. It is such a pleasure to learn from someone who is so knowledgeable and who teaches that the Chant is first and foremost prayer; that its importance is not just as a performance, but a bridge to God. The depth of Mr Jasper's knowledge is clear and this course offers me a depth of understanding that would not otherwise be possible. Having received my Doctorate in Psychology, I can also say that the price of this course is very generous!" ~ Mrs. Ruth Butler, USA

"Christopher's Master Course has been of great assistance in developing my chant skills, which were hitherto unrooted in any study. Before... I had never sat down to learn its ins and outs. In these videos, he synthesizes the many facets of chant together with its liturgical, aesthetic, historical and theoretical underpinnings in a clear and methodical way. Thanks to this course, I was able to confidently sing the marathon Tenebrae Office of Holy Week this year (2023). Next year, I shall hopefully be leading it! Highly recommended, and especially praise Christopher for his quick and detailed responses to questions from students." ~ Sebatian Sanyal, UK

“Mr. Christopher Jasper is a very knowledgeable and highly experienced gregorianist; this course is the most comprehensive in terms of information and theoretical knowledge of Gregorian Chant. I highly recommend this course, regardless of price. It's worth way more than it costs.” ~ Sergio Ubach, Mexico

“I think it's incredible what Christopher has done, and even my music theory teacher wants to take it now! (I'm a music major at my local college). Thank you for everything you do! The Church really needs it right now!” ~ Ms. Grace Harder, USA

"This course has been remarkably helpful! Having just graduated from High School and aspiring to join a Religious order in the near future... I decided to sign up for his online Master Course! I found his videos so practical as well as inspiring... I would encourage anyone with a love for Sacred Music -- no matter your experience-- to consider Mr. Jasper’s Course as an easy and concrete way to grow in appreciation and understanding of Gregorian Chant." Ms. Amy Marie, USA
